Mesothelioma

Hello everyone, I was diagnosed with Mesothelioma in July last year 2024, I have only 30% lung capacity/function so a biopsy can not be taken and no anaesthetic as I would not survive the op. I do have a 40 year cough which now makes be breathless especially on cloudy day and exertion. I have had my chest drained once. I know it is terminal.

I take no medication apart from inhalers and I am cheerful and reasonably active. (as can be expected for a 75 year oldie)I am still driving and meeting friends and laughing a lot with husband and family. I walk the dog briefly in calm weather but not far, well that’s my excuse anyway. . I have experienced a wonderful life ( apart from ten years)  I know I will not be flying away on exotic holidays anymore but I have a wonderful husband and family and been everywhere I want to go.

My question is could they have got it wrong? How long before  I detoriate? Is anyone else at this early stage of confusion. Or am I living in cloud cuckoo land?

Also my hair is thinning yet I am not having treatment. Worry I suppose!

  • So sorry you have mesothelioma my husband had it . Doctor told him he had it in August of 23  and he passed in October of 23. So what ever you are doing try to keep doing it and enjoy your time with your family and friends I pray you live much longer sending love and hugs to you.

  • Thank you for your kind words and I wish you some peace. Just keep busy. X

  • Hi

I was diagnosis in July 2024 at age 61 .  I hope all is going well still. I am still managing to work although not as many hours and like you am driving and still meeting up with friends . My breathing is ok unless I go to fast up the stairs then I get chest pain.  May I ask if you are having any treatment.

  • My dad was diagnosed with plural mesothelioma in may 2022 and after having 10 rounds of immunotherapy he’s doing so well, living life to the full cancer is stable, just shows there’s always hope as he was given 6 months to live. He’s 76 hopefully things will stay stable for as long as possible,

  • I’m so happy your Dad is doing so well it’s lovely to hear some positive news . Unfortunately the immuno didn’t work for me which was a blow at the time but I have managed to pull my big girl pants up and have completed cycle 2 of chemo which has been tougher but at least I had another option.

  • There’s always hope xxx
