Pleural mesothelioma

After blood tests, x rays, scans and a stay in hospital in March this year my  77 year old husband was diagnosed with mesothelioma.

During the summer months he had 7 treatments of immunotherapy, but sadly we were told that the results of a ct scan showed the treatment had not worked and chemotherapy was recommended.  The first of four treatments was nearly three weeks ago and the second is due this week. He suffered with pain for the first few days but the pain has gone and now he is very tired and sleeps a lot plus his appetite is not as good as it was when treatment started. I am dreading the second lot of treatment this week as it could make him even worse. Anyone had similar experience . Does second dose mare the patient worse?

it is a struggle to see a once fairly active person reduced to someone sitting around and asleep most of the time.

  • Hi  and welcome to this corner of the Community but sorry to see you finding us and to hear about your husband.

I don't have Mesothelioma but have lived with Asbestosis for a number of years, fortunately it remains stable but my main 23 year fight is with an incurable type of blood cancer Stage 4a

Talking to people face to face can help a lot but during these strange times it’s not that available but do check to see if any Local Macmillan Support in your area has opened up. Do also check out for a local Maggie's Centre in your area as these folks are amazing.

The Macmillan Support Line is open 8am-8pm (timings may differ across services) 7 days a week on 0808 808 00 00. This service provides cancer information, practical information, emotional support, benefits/financial guidance or just a listening ear.

You may also find our Ask an Expert section helpful but do allow a few working days for a reply.

You may also want to check out www.mesothelioma.uk.com for some good information and have various support platforms.

Always around if you need further help or just want to talk.
