Hi

i am new member. My dad was diagnosed with mesothelioma. Due to his other medical conditions, he has been told that there is no treatment. Him and my mum seemed to have accepted the diagnosis but I am really struggling.

hope to get some good advice (and also provide some as I am a breast cancer survivor)

  • Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community

I'm sorry to read that your dad has recently been diagnosed with mesothelioma and that you're struggling to come to terms with the diagnosis.

I hope you don't mind me suggesting that you also join and post in the supporting someone with incurable cancer group which is for carers, friends and families of people with an incurable diagnosis to discuss their emotions as well as practical issues about palliative care. If this is something that you'd like to do clicking on the link I've created will take you straight there where you can join and post in the same way as you did here.

It would be great if you could pop something about your dad's journey so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

  • Hello Curling21,

I don’t have any advice unfortunately but just wanted to let you know that my Dad has been diagnosed recently too and I am also struggling with accepting the diagnosis.

  • I am a new member,  my husband was diagnosed with mesothelioma 2 x months ago. Our world has turned upside down and its moved so fast from just checking for anything sinister to telling us it's cancer.  My husband was always fit and healthy...we enjoy walks .

His treatment plan is to use talc on his lung that's not happened yet. They have removed fluid and that's helped. But he feels exhausted all the time and he doesn't seem to have any energy.

My husband started 4 x weeks ago on oramorph for his coughing, this has eased it . But he is sick with the coughing this seems worse at night. I got humidifiers to see if this helps....

I am emotionally drained and from having a busy life to this awful news of my beautiful husband my life Broken heart seems to have changed dramatically 2 x months ago Broken heart

  • I am so sorry to hear your devastating news.  I was in your position over 5 years ago, but really don't have any advice. If you click on lynwood you will see my journey.
