Hi Murph. My father was diagnosed last Wednesday. Lost lots of weight, short of breath and tiredness. It’s just so scary and overwhelming to try and come to terms with this being that Dad has never ever been unwell. I can’t get my head around it. All he’s done is work his whole life since his teens to ensure he provides for his family, never smoked in his life. It all just seems so unfair. Where are you based?
Dad has opted for chemo/clinical trial.

Hi Morph sorry this is the same person as lottiem!
has the drain made his symptoms better? And was it his choice to decline treatment? How does your Dad feel about it all? Mine is scared and it breaks my heart. We are being treated at Wythenshawe in hospital.

    likewise to you

hi, the drain stops the build up of fluid which is good for his breathing.  my dad is in his eighties and he choose not to have treatment . at the moment he his able to walk and talk with friends and Potter around the house . he didn't want treatment to interrupt that. everyone is different in those decisions.

he has been angry and gone through the why me ,I've worked all my life and it was work that had asbestos  which has given him the mesolithoma.

he has support from mum and family and we talk openly which is difficult at times

he takes everyday as it comes .

    hope that helps x

Yes Dad had a drain after his biopsy which helped but they removed it unfortunately. Good that your Dad still has his independent and is able to potter and see friends. My Dad is still working but is struggling with it god bless him. Clinging on to that and his identity I guess. He too has worked his whole life as a surveyor from teens to now and he is 73. I just hope his treatment works. We had been so looking forward to my wedding this August but had to postpone due to COVID so we are planning a smaller wedding in Jan so he can be there for us. Xx
