Hi my dad was diagnosed with mesothelioma back in April, he had chemotherapy but sadly it had not worked and the disease has spread within his lungs, he’s now trying immunotherapy we will see the oncologist in 6 weeks to see how it’s all going.
Some days my dad is in so much pain despite being on morphine and other pain killers, my dad has deteriorated within the last month or so and the palliative care nurse thought that my dad only had weeks left to live, but that was a few weeks ago and my dad is still around and he’s ok, we’ll as much as ok can be...
Today for example my dad looks really well, he’s not in that much pain compared to how he has been and he’s had a good appetite, but then tomorrow this may all change where he’s pale, no appetite, and in so much pain that he’s practically screaming!
is this normal for mesothelioma where the patients pain is intermittent? I’m so confused I think I’ve got my head around it all that I’m going to loose my dad but then on days like today I just think but he’s fine, it’s so strange!!!
Sadly, yes it can be like that. My dad was very similar. My brother told everyone my dad had hours to live. I was sitting there watching him eating his favourite meal. That's how quickly it changed. The next day he'd be in agony. Then there's our emotional highs & lows (mostly lows). I used to wonder if different nerves were affected at different times & that caused the differnce.
