My Dad was diagnosed last year and responded well to the first chemo round. He was recommended immunotherapy and was waiting for compensation to start after lockdiwn.
Unfortunately it has spread and has caused superior vena cava obstruction, which was treated with stent. He is suffering swelling and breathlessness still and had another scan today to see if the stent had moved or was blocked. Awaiting results. In the meantime, his immunotherapy has been delayed . Last night after an afternoon at the hospital where they tried unsuccessfully to take pretreatment bloods due to swelling, he collapsed at home. I was down from London to see both my parents for the night do was able to help but now I'm back in Londin. I feel so far away and my mum is really struggling.
It is heartbreaking to see him so ill. He spoke yesterday about where all of his financial stuff was in case he didn't make it to treatment I hope that they can get this sorted so that he is well enough to start immunotherapy. My mum.is in absolute bits.shecwint talk to a counsellor. I was looking for a support group for her. This might be it. If I can persuade her.
I'd appreciate any advice.
Thanks.
Sorry to hear your dad isn’t well with this and really hope for you all that treatment can start soon and does so positively. My mum is also waiting for compensation to come through so she can start immunotherapy. CAT scan soon to tell us where she is with it all.
This forum has been a huge help with information, advice and just knowing that we are not the only ones going through this awful illness. I also get a lot of comfort from various facebook groups too - as well as Mesothelioma UK - who have saved us on so many occasions. Do phone them if you haven’t already, the nurses will call you right back and will set you up with local get together dates if you think that may help you and your mum. I am dreading the day when things escalate for my mum, but until then we enjoy the moment, the sunshine and every living thing that surrounds us. I so hope that you can grab a little of that too.
Best wishes to you and your family. X
