Hi, My name is Cathy
This is my first time posting my dad had started to complain about pain in his side late last year he was sent for a scan and then had swelling to his side due to fluid in January he had fluid drained and a biopsy done it was then confirmed he has epithelioid sarcomatoid mixed mesothelioma in his left lung this has also caused erosion to his ribs.
My dad is 75yrs old and prior to his biopsy he was fit and healthy he has never looked or acted his age. He has never been in hospital before or had operations prior to this. Since his biopsy he seems to have decreased in health he seen a consultant who put him forward for a trial BEAT-MESO which he has started he is taking this treatment Carboplatin plus Pemetrexed & Bevacizumab this has 4-6 cycles every 3 weeks.
Since biopsy he has lost alot of weight he has had 2 treatments and continuted to lose weight he has also been sleeping alot more and only awake 4-6hrs a day he doesn't have much of an appetite either his 1st scan since starting treatment shows cancer is stable.
He was due his 3rd lot of treatment last week but due to his health they put it off a week we went back today and they where surprised how well my dad looked and felt they weren't planning to continue with treatment but my dad wants to dr is worried about his quality of life while on this treatment and said he will only give 4 cycles due to side effects so he is going for his 3rd lot tomorrow and if dad is not better he wont get 4th they said they probably won't give dad any alternative treatment if it is stopped.
Can anyone give advice on what happens next? Or alternative treatments? My dad hasn't really spoken to anyone about how he feels or how much he understands about this type of cancer he worked as a joiner for the council and would cut asbestos up to fit in tank cupboards sorry for rambling.
Thanks Cathy
