My husband finished 3 fractions of external beam radiotherapy 3 weeks ago and is still getting a lot of pain especially when he first gets up in the morning and I am wondering if anyone else has experience of this. Having said this he does seem to have improved anthough he is still having to take a cocktail of pain killing meds. We are hoping that the radiotherapy is shrinking the tumour and he will go on to have Imunotherapy. I just cannot find any info on how long it takes for the Radiotherapy to work etc. I am sure he was given all the information when he had his consultations but at the time he was very confused and did not take in what he was being told and I was not allowed to be with him because of the Covid19.
Hi Kernowgirl1
The pandemic does make dealing with cancer and it's treatments very difficult. Not being able to attend appointments with your husband means that there's only one pair of ears listening to the information given.
I don't know the answer to your question about how long it takes radiotherapy to work but you could post it in the ask a nurse section of the online community and one of the specialist nurses will respond within 2 working days.
Do you know if your husband's team are aware that he's still in pain? If he hasn't mentioned this to them, then he could contact his CNS so that she can get his pain medication reviewed.
When you have a minute, it would be great if you could pop something about your husband's journey so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

Hi Latchbrook
Thank you for your reply, and I have taken on board what you said and have contacted the CNS and Palliative care nurses who are still trying to adjust his meds. I have also updated my profile with a summary of what we are experiencing.
He has also received a follow up appointment with the oncologist in a couple of weeks so at least I dont feel like he has been forgotton
Hi Kernowgirl1
I'm glad to hear that your husband's CNS and palliative care nurses are on the case of sorting out his pain meds. I'm sure it'll be a great relief to you both once they have got the dosage right.
It's good to hear as well that he's got his next appointment date with his oncologist. I know how on edge I can feel waiting for my next appointment to come through. Like you I worry that somehow I've been forgotten but I never have been in the 4 years since diagnosis.
Thanks for taking the time to update your profile. I see that you are a fellow campervanner. We can't wait to get back out in ours once the lockdown is over and campsites are open again.
Take care
