New here, with another worrying mole

Hello, new to this forum.

I was diagnosed with stage 1 melanoma back in 2018 when I was 22 years old, I had on going skin checks for quite some time with some additional suspicious moles removed thankfully they were okay.

Two months ago I itched my back and made a mole bleed which caused it to scab, I assumed it only bled and scabbed because I itched it, thought nothing of it, fast forward to now it's become itchy and it's still scabby, sore and bleeds sometimes. I spoke to GP first thing today and due to my history of melanoma they've referred me straight away to dermatology.

I'm now so angry with myself for not getting it checked two months ago when this happened, knowing I always get referred straight away I guess I didn't want to waste their time, regretting that now.

I always remember my consultant saying you're more likely to get it again once you've had it once, I'm trying not to panic but if I'm honest it's all I can think about.

Has anyone been in the situation of getting it for a second time?

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the group which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I had a stage 2 melanoma in 2016 and had another mole removed about 5 years later, so have a good idea how scared you're probably feeling right now. Fortunately the second mole turned out to just be an atypical mole, so no second melanoma. Hopefully yours will be the same.

It would be great if you could put something about your original diagnosis and treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
