Hello everyone, I was recently diagnosed as having had stage 1 melanoma. This was a shock to my system when I was given this news. I am grateful that it was caught in its early stages and I am now waiting to have a WLE done. However I am still trying to get my head round this diagnosis and can't quite believe that I had been living with this form of cancer for quite sometime. The diagnosis comes only a month after a good friend of mine passed away from stage 4 cancer so my own diagnosis has hit me quite hard. I'm also feeling a sense of guilt, as I have been fortunate, but my friend wasn't so lucky. Are these emotions natural and expected? What sort of tips are there in being able to manage how I am feeling at the moment?

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

Whilst having a melanoma diagnosis is always a shock, it's great that it's been caught at such an early stage and a WLE is the only treatment you will hopefully need.

I can understand why you feel guilty but I'm sure your friend wouldn't want you to feel like that and would want you to live life to the full.

It would be great if you could put something about your diagnosis and treatment so far into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
