Hi, I’m new here, recently diagnosed with a stage 1a melanoma. Came as a shock! Anxiety is at an all time high. I’m awaiting the WLE. I’m covered in moles, have had clinical photographs taken which I’m assuming someone will check to see if I have any other dodgy moles.

  • Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community

I'm sorry to read that you've recently been diagnosed with melanoma and I can fully understand what a shock it must have been for you.

I had a WLE, along with a sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) as I was Stage 2, so I'm happy to answer any questions you might have about the procedure and your follow-up care. However, I don't know what happens when clinical photographs are taken as I didn't have that done.

It would be great if you could pop something about your diagnosis and treatment so far into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

  • Sorry I didn’t reply , the moderator had to change my username and then I couldn’t log back in! Blush

  • No problem

I see your melanoma was in a similar position to mine except that mine was on my upper arm.

  • I'm the same stage as you and awaiting my WLE after diagnosis on the 29 th April my WLE is due 21st June.  What was the outcome of WLE? What happens next?

  • Good morning Multimum.  Although my WLE was in a different place, I guess the procedure is the same:  Appt 2 wks after the op for results & next steps.  In my case it was a PET  scan for whole-body search.  Again 2 wks for results & next steps.  In my case they found two places; the boffins will again discuss & get back to me in clinic with the outcome.  Best wishes x
