Had excision of Bowens on sole of foot/ skin flap on leg for melanoma/ and removal of lump between eyes in one procedure 4 weeks ago. How many people get 3 differing types of skin disorders

Awaiting biopsy result from eye lump, which has healed well- but itches like mad. A bit worried as was told 2-3 weeks for results to come back and further appointment to be seen. Apart from wound check and stitch removal by practice nurse, no appointment or contact yet from the hospital. Dont want to bother anyone but is this normal? anyone else out there experienced the same?

Feel so so tired its unbelievable- got a letter about low Vit D levels and have GP phone consultation tomorrow about that. Started some supplements of my own , and added even more Vit D to my already healthy diet for past three weeks.

Thanks for reading x

  • Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community

Wow, you've been through the mill with 3 different sorts of skin conditions to deal with in one go!

Waiting for the results of biopsies is, I know, really hard. Sometimes it takes longer than expected for results to come back if, for example, the pathology laboratories are really busy or the sample has to be sent off for a second opinion. When I was diagnosed with melanoma 4 years ago my results should have been back after 4 weeks but took 6 because of a backlog at the laboratory.

The last time I had something suspect removed I was given a number to phone if I hadn't heard anything after so many weeks. As I hadn't heard I phoned and was told that my results were back and just being typed up.

You won't be considered a nuisance if you phone to see if your results are back yet. Were you given a contact number or do you already have a SCNS allocated to you? If so then just give them a quick call. You could also mention that you haven't yet received your date for your follow-up consultation.

If you haven't been given a number or have a SCNS then give the consultant's secretary a call to find out if your results are back yet. If you don't know their number then ask the hospital switchboard to put you through.

It would be great if you could pop something about your journey so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

Do come back and let me know how you get on.

    Hi Latchbrook,

Thank you for replying to my message- it was so kind of you. Yes indeed, a lot in one go to cope with.

Spoke to GP who told me to call surgeon's secretary who was so nice, she checked for the results and said they were back now. She is going to ask the surgeon to look them over, and will write to me with result and a follow up appointment So glad I called. As a former nurse ( I know, the worst kind of patient) I understand how busy staff are and the pressure they are all under right now.

Just so, so grateful that we have a fab NHS , and I had such excellent surgery and care. So good to hear from someone who has 'been there' too, and hope you are well. Will put something in my profile, just finding my way around. Could not look at this site properly until now, but feeling much more optimistic four weeks after the surgery.

  • That's good to hear that the biopsy results are back . I'll be keeping my fingers crossed that they are benign. Do let me know.

Yes I'm well thanks (touch wood). I have my first face-to-face appointment in over a year with my consultant in a few weeks time. Like you, I can't fault the care I've had from the NHS.

I do understand that some of the posts in the group can make difficult reading but I'm glad to hear that you're feeling more optimistic.

    xx
