My Melanoma Story

Hi,

I was diagnosed with Melonoma several years ago. I had type 2 Melanoma which required a wide local excision and also got lymph nodes removed that were all clear. This occurred in my early 20s and I've never really spoken about it other than to my close family on a rare occasion. I was having regular check ups for a few years and in recent times I've had another mole removed which was confirmed to be a mole in situ. This requires a wide local excision which I'm getting done in the next few months. I've had a separate mole removed several days ago as I noticed it had gotten bigger. I'm waiting to see what the news will be about this one. I've always been very strong about holding back my emotions and not showing any worry in regards to all this. The truth is that I am worried about the most recent mole I've had removed. It doesn't get easier for me having them removed and I just feel that I've to share my story as I'm struggling at the moment to keep it to myself. I am lucky that my cases have been caught early and am very grateful for this but I just needed to let it out.

  • Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community

I too was diagnosed with Stage 2 melanoma and had a WLE and SLNB 4 years ago. Like you, I've had a couple of suspicious lesions removed since which turned out to be nothing of concern but I totally understand the anxiety having biopsy excisions and then waiting for the results can bring.

You are right that just because we've had an excision before it doesn't make having subsequent ones any easier, especially when we've had bad news, ie a melanoma diagnosis in the past.

I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you that this latest lesion is non-cancerous.
