Hello,
really anxious and worried waiting 4 weeks for the removal and results. Apologies about the essay below
It appeared originally out the blue about 3 weeks ago, it was black and was slightly raised above the surface of my skin, symetrical in shape on my right thigh. I don't think anything else was there before but could've been a small brown freckle when I’ve looked back at pics. I got referred by my doctor as urgent, and couldn't wait the 2 weeks so went private to see a dermatologist who scraped off the top which had gone scabby and black (i thought it was a blood blister originally so tried to pop it but it didn't budge) and it came off fairly easily when he scraped it with a scalpol (he did say if was melanoma he doubts it would scrape off soo easily, which i really hope) leaving a 2mm lesion on my skin. Within acouple of days it healed over and is now a purple colour and smooth and not raised and has stayed the same size so far. That dermatologist advised keeping the other appointment, to have it checked as he thought it was a traumatised hemangianoma but couldn't be sure. The dermatologist i saw Monday isn't sure what it is and said it is best to be removed to have it checked. She did say it has become less keratotic and maybe slightly smaller. The letter i received today from the dermatologist i seen Monday concerns me that they are suspecting nodular melanoma even though it says ?hemangioma. The letter says 'It is a 2mm small soft purply papule with no pigment network. I did not see the vascular lacunae dermoscopically, but there is no specific dermoscopic features. I think it would be sensible to remove this for definitive histological diagnosis'
I know i just need to wait and have it removed and take it from there but has anyone had any similar symptoms please?
Thank you very much
Claz
Hi and welcome to the online community
It's perfectly normal to be anxious and worried when you notice something different on your skin but you've done the right thing in going to see your GP who, in turn, has referred you to see a dermatologist.
I have had two lesions removed from my arm, the first was a melanoma and the second was a lichen planus-like keratosis. Both looked similar but whereas one was malignant the other was benign, so what I'm trying to say is that your lesion could just as easily be benign as malignant. Both times the dermatologist wasn't sure what they were but decided to remove them so that they could be biopsied. This is what your dermatologist is doing and until your results come back you won't know what you're dealing with.
It's natural to fear the worst as well which is why you're suspecting nodular melanoma even though it says hemangioma on the letter. I know it's easy to say but try not to worry about 'what if' until you know what you're dealing with. Do you have a date for your operation yet?
When you have it removed ask how long the current wait for results is in your area and how you'll be told.

Hi
Have you had your lesion removed yet and have they given you a date for the results?

Hello,
sorry for taking soo long to reply. I finally got the results after 9 weeks and was good news it was harmless pigmentation. The only thing is now I’m getting 2 more biopsies as I’ve had spots / rash on my legs for over 10 weeks which the dermatologist thinks is inflamed hair follicles, along with my eyebrows thinning she thinks I may have a condition called lichen planopilaris, will just have to wait and see :-(
hope you are well
