Hello Teetee,
i haven’t had a SLNB myself I wondered if you had read this Macmillan section about it
I’m having surgery to remove a lymph node on Thursday but it’s not a SLNB, I won’t have the dye put in. When I went for my preassessment they advised me that my op was day surgery and that I may or may not need a drain fitted, and if I did I would need to stay overnight. I am booked in for just day surgery,
It’s a shame you didn’t post in your original discussion as the people who had already replied to you would have been sent an email. However I was thinking if I tagged to see if she has anymore info for you and latchbrook, (although latchbrook was going to have some problems with internet access for the next few days) they will be be sent an email and might pop back to help you.
I was sorry to hear about your Mum, my mother passed away 3 months before my diagnosis, it’s a double shock to the system isn’t it.
best wishes
Take care KT
Let me help you with gettin* back to a post incase you need it another time.
When you look at melanoma group you gat two different views, latest activity and discussions, you just click on the tab to change between them. I nearly always look at the group from the discussions one. I then click on the discussion to read the whole discussion if it’s new to me or on the right you can click to the latest post in the discussion. When you press a reply button in a discussion it goes to everyone and puts the post at the end that’s why it’s useful to say who you are talking to at the start, even if it’s everyone. I hope this helps I’m sure you will get the hang of using the site soon.
When I was diagnosed in 2015 I was still grieving for my mum but the short sharp shock of diagnosis for me meant I had to concentrate on my health.
Best wishes
Take care KT
Thank you so much for the explanation KT.
I too am the same, my Mum was the first thing on my mind and the last thing when I went to bed.... she died fairly suddenly without a proper diagnosis. Now, my health has taken over and I feel guily for thinking of myself first
i have to thank you and everyone else for helping me somehow cope.
You are very welcome Teetee. If you don’t mind me saying, try not to feel guilty for now prioritising yourself, my way of thinking is that your Mum would want you to do all you can to cope with your melanoma. Stress can be an enemy of your immune system and we all want our bodies to deal with the melanoma as best it can so health eating, finding ways of coping well, and exercising well are high on many people’s lists.
Best wishes

Hey
sorry for my ungodly hour reply, my nocturnal child has decided now is an appropriate time for a rave so I’m enjoying a cuppa in relative silence whilst hoping the slightly less nocturnal bigger child remains asleep.
So yes, theatre is day surgery, I could have been in an out in literally less than 6 hours total (there were people who had surgery in the lunch time slot and left before I did) had I not spent the whole post op period chucking my guts up either due to my low tolerance for general anaesthetic or the tiny dose of morphine they had given me no drain either, just two dressed wounds about thumb length long in the groin. My skin layer was closed with steristrips rather than sutures and have healed wonderfully xx
Hi Mummybear2
Hope you managed some sleep!
I am in work now. Only managed 4 hours myself so I'm not feeling it today!
Your post has made me feel so much better, thank you for that. I too am sick after GA and Morphine, so must remember to mention that to them before my op. I am seeing the surgeon on Wednesday.
Were the steristrips in the groin? How long was your WLE scar please?
Oh no, not sleeping is not good :( I hope your day allows for lots of tea and even cake! I thankfully I only have to entertain two smalls for four hours until daddy comes home, some days I wonder if going to work would be easier!
I had steristrips closing the skin on all my incisions, groin, armpit and my WLE. There are/dissolvable stitches underneath closing the other layers. I don’t now if the steristrips is standard practice though as I’ve seen lots of people needing stitches removed. My WLE scar is 12cm long, I did try to negotiate a tummy tuck whilst there to no avail!
I will add some pictures in the next comment just Incase you don’t want to see them and then you don’t have to look xx
