Immunotherapy induced diabetes

I sailed through my immunotherapy.obviously I had tiredness and sometimes sickness usually stuff you expect I have never heard of this . So sorry you have to endure that on top of everything else  . I can’t help I’m afraid but here to support 

Consultant said less than 1 percentage of people develop Type 1 diabetes because of immunotherapy, it was actually the only side effect I had

Hi, this has happened to me after my 1st and so far only session of immunotherapy.  I am struggling to deal with a cancer and now diabetic diagnoses.  Has it got any easier for you? 

It was a shock, of all the side effects I was prepared for T1 diabetes wasn’t one of them. However I am learning to live with it. The diabetic team have been great very supportive, on the plus side I’ve been so busy concentrating on that I haven’t been dwelling on my cancer diagnosis. I’m now just taking one day at a time. It is overwhelming at the start but you can do this. Get as much information as you can and just take it day by day. Let me know how your getting on.

Thank you.  I’m also finding it overwhelming and has had such an impact on my life but like you, I am trying to take it one step at a time.  It has made me very nervous about having further treatment though. 

After a lot of thought and research I have decided not to have any more immunotherapy. I’ve just had a full body scan and a brain scan and I have an appointment with my oncologist in another couple of weeks for the results and to discuss the way forward.

The same has happened to me.  I was a bit overwhelmed at first when I was in hospital with DKA and a new diagnosis, but I'm 8 months down the line now and its just a part of who I am.  The immunotherapy has saved my life and the diabetes isn't even a major inconvenience.

I hope to get to the same place as you regarding living with the diabetes but I am quite a way off that right now.

I’m in a similar place, I’m waiting for the results from a CT Scan so I can decide how to move forward.  The diabetes really has scared me.

Its a lot to take in but I'm sure you'll get used to it quicker than you think.  I remember being completely overwhelmed at first.
