I’m due to have the WLE and SLNB, pre-op next week!

With the WLE on my left arm.

Can I ask what recovery time has been like for you and how long you had to be off work? Relaxed

  • Hi

I had a WLE on my upper left arm and SLNB in my left armpit. I was fortunate that I had 'retired' before surgery so didn't need to think about work.

I guess a lot depends on what sort of job you do. Obviously if it involves a lot of lifting then you'll need to take more time off work than if your job is more sedentary. My wound sites felt completely comfortable after about a week and by two weeks I had full mobility back in my arm.

When you go for your pre-op next week they should be able to tell you how long you're likely to need to be signed off work for.

Let us know how you get on

  • OneCatME,

I had WLE on the side of my head and the SLNB down from my ear to my neck.

Op Friday, back in work Monday. Worked half days for maybe the first week and then back at it full-time. I have a desk job which probably made it easier.

    Hope it goes well.

  • In today for the WLE and SLNB, had the mapping yesterday. Been in overnight as I live 2 hours away from the hospital. I can’t fault the hospital for how quickly things have moved.

Although feeling rather nervous now Grimacing

  • Hope it goes well! Keep us posted.

    Sending positive thoughts!

    1. I hope it all went well. I believe the SLNB might be sore. I had wide local excision of scalp lesion and satellites on Monday 13th. Stage 3 melanona. Recovery okay. Sleeping upright is not great. Do you mind me asking how quickly you got surgery done after your diagnosis. Good luck with your recovery. Keep use posted.
  • My initial diagnosis was end of April 2025, my WLE and SLNB was early July 2025.

  • I was told of the diagnosis on 20 March, I live in Wales but agreed to go to Whiston Hospital so have been seen quicker. Would of had a 10 week wait if I’d staying with the local hospital.

    take care

  • Home and feeling groggy and tired. Also in a bit of pain now as the morphine is wearing off

  • I remember that feeling. Thought I was hardcore and brave.........then the drugs wore off. Didn't sleep well for a couple of night as I couldn't get my head comfy on the pillow.
