Hi all.

I've just started on this pathway. Basically habe a dark mark on my toe nail which has been there since November and now has grown a bit and my toe is a bit sore. My GP referred me to dermatologist, who is seeing me on Tuesday. Im obviously very worried about it being subungual and not sure what to expect at this initial meeting.

Im guessing at some point in the next 2 weeks ill have my nail removed. If you had yours removed, how long did you take to recover?

Im doubly worried bevause i have bumpy nodes in my neck. I had an ultrasound on them last month and it was said they "just" looked like irritated nodes, but obviously im now paranoid that I have melanoma and it's spread to my lymph nodes.

Don't know how to cope with all this anxiety.

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to our corner of the online community which I hope you'll find is an informative and supportive place to be.

I was diagnosed with melanoma, not subungual, nearly 10 years ago now but I can still remember what an anxious time it was.

I've had a look through the group for previous posts which mention subungual melanoma involving a toenail and found the most recent poster was  . I've 'tagged' her into my reply to you and hope she'll pop on and share her experience with you.

I found that the best way of coping was to carry on my normal life as much as possible and also spend time doing things that I enjoyed so I spent less time worrying about the 'what ifs'. You might also find this article on how to ease worry when waiting for medical test results helpful.

Do let me know how you get on next week when you see the dermatologist.
