Received my diagnosis

Hi, I had my mole removed 3 weeks ago and I was told then that it was a high chance it was cancerous due to the shape, size and colour. I was told I would need to wait 6-8 weeks to get the results. Of course the last 3 weeks have been difficult waiting but today my consultant called.
She confirmed it was cancerous but was contained and all I need now is to go back for a further procedure to cut a little more around the area to be safe, have a full body map done of my other moles.
For anyone who had the same results have you had further check ups or do you just keep a closer eye on them?

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to our little corner of the online community.

I'm sorry to read that you have recently been diagnosed with melanoma and it's natural to wonder what follow-ups you might expect.

Your consultant will follow the NICE guidelines for follow-ups which depend on what Stage your melanoma is. As you haven't said what Stage you are I can't tell you what the guidelines recommend but, if you click on my link, you'll be able to see them.

When you have a minute, it would be great if you could put something about your diagnosis and treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
