Hi everyone
I hope you are all doing okay.
I had my WLE, skin graft, and lymph node biopsies on 01/09. The wound clinic nurse gave me an antibacterial eye ointment to put on the skin graft (initial dressing has been removed) and on my lymph node scars. I’ve already been through 2 tubes as I need to clean it twice a day morning & evening. The tubes are only 4g. One tube she gave me and then since I’ve bought from my chemist for £11 :(
the nurse at my dressing change this week said my doctors could prescribe me the cream but they won’t for some reason it was like talking to a brick wall and £11 each week is a bit out of budget when I’m off work sick.
Can anyone suggest a cream for me to use that’s a bigger tube so more cost effective? There’s a few antibacterial wound creams on Amazon so I’m thinking to order one, also going to nip into the chemist tomorrow and see if they can recommend anything but that probably won’t happen as I’m rubbish with leaving the house all bandaged up (my skin graft is on my head) so if I could order it, even better
Suggestions welcome thank you for reading
Jo
Hi Jo,
I didn't have a skin graft, just a WLE and SLNB. I've always been advised by the SCNS to use Vaseline on my scars. I've also had Bio Oil recommended, but obviously every wound is different. Apparently it's the massaging that is as important as the moisturising cream, as it encourages blood flow to the area.
I think that your idea of asking the pharmacist is a great one. In my experience, they are very knowledgeable, and readily available, which GP's never tend to be. Also, they can prescribe some medicines under the Common Ailments scheme.
Hope you manage to find a more affordable alternative. :)

Hi Caroline
Thank you so much for your response,
Yeah I’m unable to massage yet, my WLE was 4cm which is why I’ve had to have a skin graft :( it’s fragile for a short while. My scar is huge also, they took 2 lymph nodes but it’s a big L on my neck, down from behind me ear to the middle of my neck and forward towards the middle of my neck. It was closed using medical glue - unable to massage that yet either.
Thank you - I will muster up the courage to go and speak to the pharmacist (& will use Vaseline in the interim!)
Jo xx
