Appointment to discuss results

HI all,

4 weeks after my wife's biopsy she received a call today asking her to attend an appointment this Thursday to discuss the results.

I'm assuming that there wouldn't be a need for a face to face appointment for this if it wasn't Melanoma.

Would I be right in assuming that?

It's been an anxious wait but seems like this won't be the news we were hoping for.

Appreciate any thoughts.

Thanks

  • Hi

When I had my first biopsy, I was given an appointment for my results and, at that point, there was no way they knew if I had melanoma or not.

The second time I had a mole removed, at a different hospital, I was told I'd get a letter through the post if everything was okay and a face-to-face if needed.

So in my experience, it depends on the protocol of the hospital whether you automatically get an appointment no matter what or not.

I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for your wife.

  • Thanks Latchbrook - appreciate the insight and the kind words

  • The letter was received today for romorrow's appointment and it says, attendance is essential for "your health and wellbeing". Is this a standard statement or is this indicative of bad news. The letter doesn't say to bring anyone along - again, is this standard or perhaps a good sign. Sorry, I know I'm clutching at straws here.

  • Hi

I haven't had a letter which has stated that "attendance is essential for your health and wellbeing" so I'm sorry but I would only be guessing what this means.

None of my letters when I was being treated for melanoma said to bring someone with me and during Covid they said NOT to bring someone with me.

Wishing you all the best for tomorrow and remember, even if your wife is diagnosed with melanoma, it's very treatable these days. I'm living proof, still here 9 years later.

  • I can’t share any experience of having had a similar letter.  When I received my diagnosis, it was a scheduled appointment.

What I would say though is, whether or not the letter mentions that your wife should bring somebody with her, if she is comfortable with you being there, I would definitely go along.  Two pairs of ears are without question better than one.  It’s really hard to take in all the information on your own.

  • Totally agree with  - I don't recall being told to bring anyone to my appointment either but I'm so glad my partner was in the room with me when I was given the news.

Hope the appointment went well today, and you and your wife both got some answers.
