Recurrence on scar

Hi there,

just wondering if anyone has experienced a recurrent nodular melanoma on their scar (from where it was first removed) and what it looked like when it first appeared.

i had a grade 3b melanoma removed in 2021. Yesterday after feeling a little itch, I noticed a couple of new looking “pimples” one in the centre of my scar and the other a little way above it. Quite small, I’ve taken some pics to observe any changes. Just got a bit concerned due to the location. Would be interested to hear from others who’ve had a recurrence in the same site.

thanks

  • Hi

It's always worrying when you find something new, especially if it's close to the place where your original melanoma was.

I haven't had a recurrence at the site of mine but I did find a little lump on the scar line of the SLNB (sentinel lymph node biopsy). I contacted my SCNS and she made me an appointment to see my consultant to get it checked out. I hope you don't mind me suggesting that you do the same as you would then find out what it is. In my case it was just an infection at the base of a hair folicule.

Let me know how you get on

  • Thanks Anne. Yes I contacted the skin care nurse today and sent her some pictures. She reassured me that she’s not concerned about the new arrivals based on the pics, and we agreed I’d keep a watch on them and if they start looking more worrisome I’ll get in touch again and they’ll move my next appointment forward. I’m due in for a skin check in August anyway. So fingers crossed it’s all looking fine. Slight smile Phew!

I think if they were anywhere else on my body I’d have been less worried, but being on/close to the scar put the wind up me a bit!

I knew I wouldn’t get a diagnosis from here and needed to get through to dermatology, but I’m curious to know more about how these reoccurrences start out, as I read online that they may look very different to the original mole, but there was not much more in the way of further explanation or pics.

  • Contact your dermatologist immediately. I was checked last week and as there was an observing student, the dermatologist told her that she as checking my scar Incase there was any change.  Please contact your support team tomorrow.  Getting things early can make all the difference. Good luck.
