Diagnosed with two melanomas

I don’t know how long it will take for your staging rexults to come back, but I was told that the wait between staging result  and surgery was 4 to 6 weeks. In fact I was very lucky, and I was offered a hospital  appointment within three weeks to have the WLE and SLNB.  My melanoma was on my arm and was a Stage 1B, 1.8mm in depth. The surgery took place in Merseyside, although I live in Wales

Once you have a meeting with the surgical team, they should be able to give you some sort of idea of the waiting list.

It is a terrible shock, and like you, my thoughts were totally negative when I had my results.  I found my Macmillan nurse really helpful, so if you have been allocated one (or a Specialist skin cancer nurse), they can offer you all sorts of information and advice. I also found it helpful to look at reliable sources of information, such as the Macmillan website and Melanoma Focus, which is excellent.

Instead of taking a section of my mole, all of it was removed. This meant it was confirmed as a melanoma and was also staged (1b) at the same time. I was told, as it had all been removed, there was no rush for the WLE and SLNB. However, mine took place a month after my melanoma diagnosis, which was much quicker than I’d expected.
