Hi All,

I've put my full story in my bio, so check my profile if you have questions for me!

I've been referred for my first in-person dermatology appointment after teledermatology assessed two of my most concerning moles (abdomen and hand/finger moles) and determined they were concerning. I have the reports the telederm wrote, and for both moles, the primary diagnosis was "benign mild displastic naevus" and the secondary diagnosis was "premalignant severely dysplastic naevus"... Which feels a bit backwards to me but I'm not a doctor! That said, it is very reassuring that they didn't immediately jump to a major initial diagnosis.

My appointment is on the 22nd of May 2025 at 9:45am. I plan on getting to the hospital no later than 9:30 so that I can sit outside and chill for a while before going in. I've been told to allow "at least two hours" for the appointment, but I've had conflicting information on whether I should expect the lesions to be removed in this first appointment. The only thing I've been told to do is bring all of my current medications and vitamins with me.

The appointment is at Kent and Canterbury hospital. If anyone has tips for this specific hospital/department, please do let me know!

I'm not afraid of hospitals or medical procedures at all. At this point I'm rather used to the dinging of MRIs and the poking of needles. But I do feel uncomfortable with not knowing what to expect at all. Any advice or support is well appreciated.

  • Forgot to add this into the post so I'll just put it here:

I'm expecting that the hand/finger mole will be more complicated for them to remove, given its position in the webbing of my fingers. Has anyone had a lesion like this removed, and if so can you tell me what happened and what it was like for you?

It's right in the webbing between my little finger and ring finger of my left hand.

  • I have no idea what whether your appointment will include surgery or not, but if they are asking you to allow two hours does sound as though they are planning to do some sort of procedure. I agree with you it must be really disconcerting not to know what’s happening and what to expect.

Is there any way in which you could ring up the medical team secretary and ask them to find out a bit more information for you? it’s not an unreasonable request, especially if you’re planning on driving yourself to the appointment.

  • Thankfully I'll be getting a taxi there as I don't drive and it would take me over an hour by public transport! I've been considering phoning to ask, but I've got a bunch of other things I'm meant to be doing all week so it's a matter of whether I've got time to do it. Thank you for your reply, I'll see if I can give them a ring tomorrow
