Stage 2 Invasive nodular melanoma
On the 25th April 2025 I had my wide local excision & bilateral axilla lymph node biopsies.
I woke up from surgery with armpit nerve pain and it hasn’t left me since. I would say there is a small improvement but I’m still requiring a whole host of medication to manage the pain. Maybe I naïve but I just wasn’t expecting this type of pain.
Does anyone have any advice on what might help?
Or who I should contact for support with this?
I’ve read that physio & massage can help but surely it would need to someone that specialises?
Thanks in advance for your help xx
Hi there
so sorry to hear you are suffering so much with nerve pain….i also suffered nerve pain after wle & groin sentinel node biopsy I was referred to lymphoedema clinic where they showed me how to do lymph massage & different exercises to relief pain & I also wore compression stocking for a short period of time …as time went on the nerve pain improved with healing & rarely bothers me now …I also found rubbing in castor oil a couple of times a day really helped
hope this helps perhaps speak with you CNS re your options
Alli x
Thanks so much for that that’s really helpful.
I have my follow up with the consultant in a couple of weeks so if it’s no better I’ll ask for a referral to the lymphoedema clinic.
There’s so little advice online on how to manage the pain.
Pleased to hear your pain resolved in time.
best wishes xx
Hi,
I hope the pain is easing, the way the surgery affects nerves is obviously different for us all and I really hope yours improves. I have to share my story, it makes me smile now but really affected me at the time. After I had WLE on my thigh and lymph node excision from my groin, I turned over in bed about 3 days later and felt the horrible pain of the skin across the top of my entire thigh tear open - not where my WLE was and just down from my groin. I screamed, woke my wife up and asked her would she peal the bed quilt back and carefully view the huge open wound on my thigh. She was petrified and did so carefully. There was absolute nothing there. Leg fully intact (of course).
What I still don’t have the answer to is whatever caused that sensation through my nerves. It was horrific and genuinely felt like my skin had just ripped apart, but seemingly from nothing and I haven’t experienced it since. I get restless leg now in that leg only, but apart from that no pain or sensations such as above.
I wish you well and hope you make a full recovery. I appreciate this doesn’t answer your question but hopefully an example of someone who’s nerves have ‘repaired’ in comparison to three years ago.
