Hi all new to this group I have just had a call back to go in for results tomorrow of my CT scan I have a week ago. It was of neck, chest, abdominal and pelvic my question is would my swollen lymph node under my armpit have shown up on the CT scan?

Thank you

  • Hi Louise, I hope all goes well for you with your CT scan results. I believe that it would have shown up on the CT scan. I've just had axilliary lymph node dissection surgery here for an underarm lump that DID show up on PET CT scan. The PET CT scans/CT only scans are very thorough but if you have any doubts at all, when you are in your consultation for results if you ask they will absolutely reassure and inform you of everything - fingers crossed here for you tomorrow - do let us know how you get on too Best Wishes, Kerry

  • Thank you so much for your reply I’m not in the best way I have bad health anxiety anyway. I’m guessing they have found something as they want me in. I have a CT scan with dye one week ago I’m hoping if anything it’s just my lymph nodes and can have removed. How are you feeling now you have had your lymph nodes removed?

  • Hi Loula you are most welcome. Its quite alright to feel very anxious - it makes you very normal and very humam:)  I know I was very scared myself. The CT scan is SO much easier than you think - its almost like going through a large hula hoop - it looks like a giant Polo mint - recommend a youtube of it thats what I did and found it so much easier once I knew what it looks like - they make you ever so comfy with pillows and are really nice to you at every stage and I promise you its over before you know it. The dye is done via a little injection into the back of your hand and its only so that they can see clearly once you are being scanned.  I was a wobbly jelly beforehand and emerged wondering what on earth I'd been worried about:) just to reassure you. In my case there was a lump that was an axilliary (lymph nodes) lump in my armpit that the surgeon took  out under general anasthetic last week - it was a brilliant operation and the team really are gentle and kind at every stage  - I could not speak more highly of them if I tried. Whenever I get anxious, I let myself breathe, close my eyes and imagine something really peaceful and nice instead - for example when I did the CT scan I just imagined I was on a sunlounger on holiday in the sun - and in fact was so comfy that in the end they nearly had to wake me up and persuade me off the machine as I was enjoying daydreaming so much:) So I recommend imaginging something that feels nice and simply 'rehearsing' feeling elated once the scan is over. I shall be rooting for you here - please let me know how you get on and know that I am cheering you on too - your message has helped me too Best Wishes to you Kerry

  • Hi Kerry

thank you I have had the CT scan along with MRI last week as I have a swollen lymph node under my armpit I found the CT much better than the MRI I have now had a phone call to go in to see macmillan nurse to get results of CT tomorrow. That’s why I thought I wonder if they could see something in lymph node from CT scan I do hope whatever it is they can fix me I have 3 children and I’m broken hearted for them
