I have been having immuno for 2 years now, and similar experiences to others on this forum - thyroid affected, bad bout of colitis etc, but I'm currently on nivolumab every 6 weeks and I'm pretty good - scans show everything is stable. Apparently I need to make a choice now - continue as is, extend the treatment interval, or stop treatment but continue the scans with an option to restart if necessary. Anyone here with long term experience, please? - And if so what has been your experience beyond two years? Many thanks.
Hi Ian567 and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.
I don't have the experience you're looking for but I noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet. Responding to you will 'bump' it back to the top of the discussion list where it'll be easier to see.
Wishing you all the best with whatever decision you make.
Hi. I continued on Nivolumab for 4 years. I could have stopped after 2 but felt anxious about stopping so continued as had very few side effects. My last treatment was Oct 2022 and have 3 month scans. I had no evidence of disease after 2 years. I notice you said you scans were stable Is there still tumours present ? I think it’s an individual choice and as you say you can go back on it. My treatments were every 4 weeks.
I felt strange without going to hospital but soon got used to it. Not having active treatment makes me forget about my condition more. So far touch wood I have had clear scans.
Thanks for that! Just to clarify, did you have tumors which dissapered after treatment?
As the lesions on my brain were zapped with stereotactic radiosurgery I believe what shows up on the scans are basically dead tissue. But there are still spots on my lungs and I assume these are held in check by the nivolumab, but are still active - I will have to check if that's right with my Macmillan nurse - I feel stupid that I haven't clarified that before!
I have had side effects but they are well controlled by medication, so my guy feel is to continue with nivolumab, possibly extending the interval between sessions.
Thanks again, and hope your scans remain clear.
Yes I had many tumours ,one about 15 cm near my kidney. Some in my lung and also near my spine. Most disappeared but the one near my kidney shrank and it is now dead. ( I had 2 pet scans and nothing lit up in that area ) .That sounds a good plan. I wish you luck
