Hyponatremia

I have been turned down for a trial and switched to starting on Pembrolizumab shortly because of a blood test showing hyponatremia.  Noone has suggested a medication/treatment for the hyponatremia.  Does anyone have experience about this issue?  Reading around online, this deficiency seems to be associated with my own circumstances (stage 4 melanoma which has spread to the lung) amongst others.  Perhaps treatment is not thought to be effective? or useful?.

  • Hi

I don't have hyponatremia but noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet.

I've searched the group for previous posts which mention this condition but drawn a blank I'm afraid. Of course that doesn't necessarily mean that no one has had this, they may just not have posted about it.

  • Thankyou! Much appreciated.

  • Hi Mendoe, low sodium in the body has various causes which can be explained by a doctor.  Can your GP or oncologist not explain them to you?

You do need it investigated as it alone can cause serious issues.  It can be as simple as you drinking too much fluid to other more serious causes.  I'm not sure if it's related to your current disease or not but again your oncologist should know.  It can be heartbreaking being turned down for a trial and not being quite sure why.  Please get more advice on your low salt levels mate. • My dad has hyponatremia (low sodium levels in blood) - caused by his SCLC.  He has  been given sodium tablets to raise the levels back up slowly before he can start chemoradiation treatment.   If you have low sodium levels - it should be treated with sodium tablets or an IV drip (this is what I have learned from doctor).
