Forearm pain

Hello everyone,

I had  my wider exclusion and sentinel node surgery last Wednesday- it went very well. Amazing surgeon in Oxford and home by bedtime. I’ve been a little tired and achey but the bruises are slowly going. However, when I use my right arm and hand, unfortunately right handed, the muscle below my scar is really aching. The scar/wound is about 8 inches long from a few inches above my wrist to an inch or two above my elbow line in the outside of my arm.

I’m achey in my armpit and the underside of my upper arm - moving very gingerly, holding myself when I lean forward to stop skin stretching too much.

Struggling to type too much or so much with my right arm to be honest.

Any advice on the forearm pain would be good…. Tips for recovery.

Huge thanks as always…. You have all given so much hope and support over the past few months

  • Hi Spanielmumma,

    Glad that WLE went well.

I don't think one week is a long time to recover, I'd take things slowly.

My WLE and SLNB area (knee and groin) was feeling  quite tight and had a feeling of muscle pain like one after  heavy exercise, even on the second week and when I  saw my surgeon, they told me it'll take up to 6 weeks to go back to my normal.

Pain wise I was advised on 1000mg paracetamol combined with codeine based painkillers for first 2 days, after that pain wise was ok, apart form discomfort. Now, 20 days after surgery, I still have sharp pains on the scar area now and than that doesn't last long and haven't taken any painkillers.

    Wishing you a speedy recovery.

  • Hi Spanielmumma,

Don't worry that all sounds quite normal.  I had all sorts of aches and pains and numbness to start with. My WLE and SNLB was on my upper arm and axilla. I had pain in my forearm mostly when I used that arm to lift anything and overdid it in the alottment.

Just look out for signs of infection-- redness , heat, localised soreness, high temperature or noticeable swelling.  I'm still having some forearm pain now(op was in July) if I do too much. It can take at least six months to heal completely as there are many layers to heal under the surface. X

Rest, painkillers and eat and drink normally though if you do take anything with codeine in the have some prunes too!

    Take care x
