Hello All

I am new to this forum. My Dad had his prognosis this week having multiple nodes of his lungs. He originally had primary bowel cancer, where he had a reconstruction, last year he tackled secondary liver cancer were he had to operations one of which was and ablation. We were then told Dad was in the clear for some time but two weeks ago we were contact to say that Dad was going to be referred for palliative cancer care for the nodes on his lung which we did not know about but the measurement of the nodes had change between August 24 and March 25. This was the first time we had heard about the nodes on his lungs.

Dad has been offered chemo in 12 week stints and progress would be the slowing down of growth but they have confirmed that the treatment will not remove the cancer all together. My dad is elderly at the age of 79 and also has anxiety and depression so I am trying to support him in the best way I can.

I am hoping I can learn from the forum how to support Dad. I am slowly working through a list of research but any thoughts and ideas would be really welcomed.

Thank you

Heather

  • Hi Heather/ and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I’m Anne, one of the Community Champions here on the Online Community and, although I'm not a member of this group, I noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet. Responding to you will 'bump' it back to the top of the discussion list again.

As you mentioned wanting to find ways to support your dad, you might like to join the carers only group as you'll then connect directly with others who are supporting someone through cancer.

If this is something that you'd like to do, just click on the link I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

While you're waiting for replies, it would be great if you could put something about your dad's diagnosis and treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
