New here, diagnosed with lung and kidney cancer synchronous

An x-ray on my clavicle captured an incidental finding in my lung.

Further x-rays, CT scan and PET scan showed a lesion in the upper lobe of my right lung which looks like an aggressive form of cancer and a 5cm tumour on a kidney.

The plan is to remove the kidney and the upper lobe.

They think they are synchronous and not related.

The next step is a biopsy on the lesion in the lung.

I’ve been referred for two types of surgery but at different hospitals.

Im worrying about which surgery they’ll do first and how long to get over one surgery before they can do the other.
It’s all new and frightening.

  • Hi

welcome to the group but sorry you have had to join us here. I am sorry to hear you have to have 2 surgeries. Although they are at different hospitals, they will liaise with each other, and the 2nd op won’t happen u til you are fully recovered from the first.

There are people in the group who have had a lung biopsy so hopefully someone will share their experience with you. My biopsy was done slightly differently as mine was done via a bronchoscopy, but I was asleep for the procedure as they removed a very large tumour from the airway.

I know how scary all of this will be for you. Being told you have cancer knocks you off your feet. I hope you have some support at home from family or friends? But please also come here and chat as often as you like. We have all been through the diagnosis stage so we know how you feel.

You can also call the MacMillan support line who are available 7 days a week from 8am until 8pm on 0808 808 00 00.
