So the summary - diagnosed in last few weeks with lung cancer adenocarcinoma T2BN0M0. Plan was chemotherapy then surgery to remove lower lobe of my right lung.
Initial appointment with oncology due tomorrow but NHS message cancelled it with no reason. Scared the bejeezus out of me to be honest. The call I have just received explains why the appointment was cancelled.
Apparently the lung biopsy taken was sent for further tests as is usual, and I have a mutation EGFR which means the chemotherapy prior to surgery is not needed. I will still have the surgery (consultant appointment is next week) followed by tablets every day for about a year. I've been told the side effects are generally less and with less/no immune system impact.
Sounds like a "good mutation" to have.
Didn't know whether to laugh or cry. I may have done a mix of both.
Now that definitely lsounds like good news to me. No chemo is definitely a bonus and surgery is the best route to long term success. You're in pole position.
