Hi there,
I new on here. This is my story.
I went to my GP in December as I have a crackling sound on my lungs when I breath out, I was asked if I get out of breath and my answer was yes as I do sometimes, anyway I was sent for a chest xraynd to a respiratory centre. I was diagnosed with mild COPD. I was also sent for scans as they found 2 shadows on each of my lungs. I was sent for more scans , endoscopy which can back inconclusive,
so then it was a biopsy which confirmed stage 3b lung cancer. Im not sure if its actually sunk in yet, I feel fine physically, its mad as im not feeling tired or loosing weight or coughing
. Anyway I've got appointment with the oncologist 25th February to discuss treatment. They still dont know what the crackling sound is but im sure its to do with my COPD also I've had neck aches for a couple of months I changed my pillows so it not from how I sleep. Has anyone else had these symptoms with lung cancer ?
Hi Samantha
welcome to the group but sorry you have had to join us here. Early stage lung cancer often does not show symptoms. I have heard many times of people only being diagnosed when other conditions have brought about tests and investigations. Very often COPD masks lung cancer symptoms. When I was diagnosed my tumour had broken through the top lung into the bronchial airway, and it was only then that my breathing became difficult, although my oncologist said it had been there for a while.
I am not sure about the neck pain. This may be something to ask the oncologist at your appointment.
Lung cancer treatment has come a long way in recent years, and there are far more people living long lives with the disease. I know the thought of treatment is daunting, but once you start and get into a routine with it, things will settle for you emotionally.
If you have a maggies centre near your hospital this is a great place to pop into, they offer lots of support independently and in groups. Or you can call the MacMillan support line free of charge from 8am until 8pm. They are available 7 days a week on 0808 808 00 00.
Good luck with your appointment, let us know how you get on.
Hi Samantha,
With me it was an irriatating cough and slight breathlessness. They diagnosed me with asthma. Continued on, getting more breathless, asthma meds not working. I had to fight to get a repeat chest xray which showed a pleural effusion and partial lung collapse. If i hadnt got so breathless and needes admitted to hosiptal i think id still be waiting.
My weightloss because im a larger lady (who has never smoked) was considered a good thing as there would be less pressure on my lungs. After symptoms for 6 months i am stage 4 adenocarcinoma with bone mets
