Hi all I have lung cancer I'm 52 I had kidney cancer 3 years ago. I had 3 nodules but they had grown and acting suspiciously so had biopsy on one then failed attempt on another so they opted to remove with lobe of lung so

1 top left is carcinoid

2 middle right removed atypical carcinoid this type more aggressive.

3 bottom right they are not sure what type it is

Surgeon said he would remove if that's what I want but I have to understand I will loose more of lung. But I will see oncologist next wk jhe said another option it hormone injections.

I'm looking for any advice thanks for reading

  • Hi Busybee

So sorry that you have cause to be on here.

You must not make any decision until you have discussed the  non-invasive treatment options with the Oncologist, which may include immunotherapy, radiotherapy, chemo or a combination of treatments.

The Oncologist may advise that your best option is the surgery, but at least you will be able to make a fully informed decision.

I hope this helps a little bit.

Whatever your decision, I wish you the best possible outcomes.

  • Hello , a warm welcome to the lung forum, although I'm sorry you had the need to join.

Surgery is often considered to be the most successful treatment for many tumours including those in the lungs because they are permanently removed. However this has to be weighed against things like risks of surgery, loss of lung function, how this might affect your lifestyle and any other options for non surgical treatments.

I think you need to wait until you've seen the oncologist next week to find out what's involved with hormone injections such as success rate, frequency of treatment, temporary or permanent side effects etc. so you can compare against surgery.

By all means come back to us when you have some more information. I'd also suggest you join the neuroendocrine forum and put your questions on there, I'm sure you'll find some more specific advice for carcinoid tumours there. I've put a link to this below.

I wish you all the best,

    Derek.
