I was diagnosed with lung cancer (small cell aggressive) a month ago and having and told if I didn't get treatment would last 3/4 months, with treatment hopefully 12 months, first lot of chemo on Wednesday. Am so upset everybday, keep crying. Chemo nurses rang yesterday to say what would be happening, and what side effects there could be, couln't get my head around it, nor take it all in.
Hi Crossword
So very sorry that you have cause to be on here.
SCLC, alongside other types of lung cancer, is no longer the automatic death sentence it once was. In 2011 (yes 2011 not a typo), I was diagnosed with SCLC, and was told that without treatment my life expectancy was approx 3 months. I had asked the question to shock my family members who were with me into accepting the severity of my situation; I called it 'tough love'.
Small Cell Lung Cancer (SCLC) responds well to chemo in terms of shrinking the tumour. Usually the chemo is given across 4 to 6 cycles, with each cycle being over 3 days, The side effects always vary from person to person. However over the last 10 years or so chemo has been made a lot 'kinder', reducing the level of any side effects. It will be tough but it is very much doable.
Did the Nurse mention radiotherapy, which is usually given for SCLC alongside the chemo?
So dry those tears and get yourself ready for chemo on Wednesday I promise it will not be as bad as you think it is going to be

I was diagnosed with small cell lung cancer in 2022, I receive immunotherapy , 3 rounds but my body didn't like it , I carried on without any treatment since , I now have pulmonary hypertension due to the cancer but I'm still here living a life worth living so keep on going , the journey may be tough but we get there
Thanks for sharing Denton. You have already beaten the statistics. Congratulations! Do you follow any certain diet, take any supplements, ect.?
Thank you I will keep trying to keep upbeat, but still keep crying every day and nit sleeping well. District nurses know coming for 5 days to put injection into stomach, as I could nit do it, they were lovely.
Thanks again.
Xx
No I just eat as i usually have , no supplements, I'm not as as mobile as I was but that's OK
That’s great news Denton. I’m eating like I always have but I want to try eating a bit more vegetables. Happy to hear you are still doing well even without the Immunotherapy.
Hi, how are you. I went to see a consultant on Friday, just sat there coudn't take it all in. He gage me 3 lots ar tablets, steroids, pain relief fir my sciatica and knee pain, not sre what 3rd ones are for. Just so tired all day, stayed in bed this morning to rest, not used to doing this, but just so tired. Do you think it is the tablets or chemo (althiugh that was 3 weeks ago)
