Hi all, bit of a story, aged 69, retired 2 years ago. Got recurrent breast cancer after 33 years in 2023, same breast, same place, no spread so had a mastectomy. Last year diagnosed with Lung cancer, a primary tumour unrelated to the breast. Found out that this Tumour was there when had tests for bc but was dismissed as nothing, I didn't know about this at the time. Due to grade 3 emphysema could only have a wedge cut out of my lung. Anyway just an isolated tumour easy to remove but many adhesions were found on my lung caused by radiotherapy 33 years ago! The surgeon did a partial decortication of my lung, and for the past year my breathing has improved considerably, that is the good news. The surgeon mentioned that he is confident he got a clear margin but not 100% sure. 3 monthly scans showed a nodule on the stitch line which hasn't moved in size. The most recent showed a nodule on the other lung so off for a petscan today. Exactly a year since my surgery, sigh... Here we go again!
Hi Casmo  welcome to the group but sorry you find yourself here. You have been through such a lot already, and it seems very unfair that you have a second cancer that is not linked to the first. I have a sarcoma called endometrial stromal sarcoma, which was found in 2009 after a routine hysterectomy. It was a very surreal feeling at the time, because I never knew it was there, I was just told it was removed with the hysterectomy and I didn’t need any further treatment. So it never felt like I had cancer. But when it came back nearly 5 years later in my lungs, that was a different scenario altogether! I joined this forum about 9 years ago, and have spoken to a few people over the years, who like yourself, have had the misfortune to have 2 different cancers.
I can relate to the adhesions in the lung from the radiation. My top lobe of my lung no longer functions due to radiation, and last year I started getting late onset neuropathy in my back from the radiotherapy. But it was the radiotherapy that saved my life, so how can I complain.
I hope the PET scan went well. Please do let us know how you get on with that. I know how stressful the wait for results will be, so do come and chat here whilst you wait.
Hi I have no clue if I’m in the right forum but my best friend got diagnosed with lung cancer and has got weaker since the diagnosis, he is yet to have his plan but walking talking anything really makes him so tired and weak and he has to rest x is this normal? Thankyou whoever helps me xx
We've all had different reactions so it's hard to say. I had it in my bowel in 03 then again in my lung last year, had surgery and feel fine now
Hi Robin and Blossom964ccc there could be lots of reasons for this. Anxiety and stress can have a huge impact on the body. In the lung group we are all either people living with lung cancer, or caring for someone with lung cancer. So here we can share our own experiences which Jagman has already explained, our own experiences can vary considerably. If you would like a more medical based answer you can post your question in the Ask a Nurse forum.
I was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer in 2022 , it was originally thought I had covid , I struggled for a few months in a deep despair but then after a couple of stays in hospital , one when I was told I was dying , I decided to fight back , I returned to work for a couple of years but then my husband was diagnosed with dementia to which I am his main carer so I retired last year , I now also have pulmonary hypertension related to the cancer , its a lot to take on but at the end of the day we have to make the best of what we have , I feel for others younger than me who have small children , my daughter us 49 and a god send to me , have hope everyone because that's all we have
Hi all
Thought I would give an update which is rather bizarre. The pet scan showed up the nodule on the right lung, but is smaller than it was on the ct scan? To do a biopsy could be more trouble than it's worth, also the nodule is behind a rib. The rest of the pet scan was clear and the stitch line is scar tissue, so good news. At the meeting it was discussed how quick it came up from the previous ct which was clear, and how the pet scan most likely would have shown a further development, but it is clear. So now they are thinking possibly some kind of inflammation, so I have been given antibiotics and a ct begining of December. If it is till there, my breathing tests were passable, so they said they will do a wedge section again, the same as on the other lung. I can't complain because I expected the worse, but back in limbo!
