Hi all. I'm  Esse and I was diagnosed with metatastic lung cancer in October last year. I have secondary brain and bone cancer. I was advised to start a course of Denosumab injections to protect my bones, but having read of some of the side effects I am having second thoughts.                      Has anyone here had these injections and suffered side effects?

  • Hi Esse

I do not have any experience of Denosumab. However if you do go ahead with it  and the side effects are too much to cope with, you can ask for the treatment to be stopped.

If it will help, worth a try at least?

  • Hi Esse, I have had several denu jabs. They had to be postponed due to kidney damage from immunotherapy however, I didn't have any side effects. I am taking calcium tablets and also have a fromage frais every day. My nurse advised them, as it contains a lot of calcium. I don't know if this helps at all. Best wishes to you.

    • Thanks Kegsy. I'm thinking yes give it a go, it might not be so bad. As you say. I can always stop the treatment if I do get any bad side effects.
  • I am on denosumab. I have one injection every six months. The first injection made my bones really ache, and I had flu like symptoms, but have no side effects since. Unlike other medications, you cannot just stop denosumab as there is a risk of re bound bone fractures, so once you have started you are not encouraged to stop. You also have to have your teeth checked prior to every injection, as there is a small chance of jaw necrosis. Any dental work you need doing you must get it done before the injections start. I have been on it since 2020 with no problems.

  • Thanks Little Joe. I am maybe overthinking this. The rarest side effects are just that, rare, and I can stop the treatment if it gets too bad.
