Hi all,
newbie here and I’ve recently been diagnosed with non smokers lung cancer. Still waiting to start treatment
has anyone got any advise or tips on how to manage symptoms?
thank you
I'm a none smoker and had it in my lung last year. Surgery October. But I'm not on chemo' or any medication whatsoever. I didn't let it bother me, just got on with it and placed my trust in the medical staff. This was following bowel "C" in 03 so I guess I was a little familiar with the process. There's nothing we can do other than go with the flow. I'm feeling fine now more or less back to my normal self so there's no reason why you shouldn't be the same. Good luck.
Morning,
thank you for the reply, yeah I am definitely keeping positive and got a good support around me.
Hi Cookie_2409 welcome to the group, but sorry you find yourself here. It is hard to understand at first, a lung cancer diagnosis when you have never smoked, but an oncologist once told me, anyone who has lungs, can get lung cancer.
What symptoms are you experiencing that you need help with?
Hello,
it’s more with the back/chest pain and trying to get comfortable at night, that I am struggling with.
Cookie_2409 so sorry to hear that you're having back/chest pain. The only symptom I ever had to warn me I had lung cancer was a really irritating cough. But after surgery and all the other treatments - and for many years - I have found it easiest to go to sleep half-sitting up. In bed I use six pillows behind me and a couple beside me for my arms, so it's like sleeping in a really comfy recliner. I was given this tip by another cancer survivor..... I don't know if it would work for you too? Getting enough sleep is really important!
Oh thank you, I’ll give that a good. I had the same with a persistent cough that wouldn’t go away.
Hi Cookie_2409 I agree with PamelaAnne try sleeping more up right. You can get a triangle pillow that a lot of mums use as nursing pillows, but if you put this behind you to sleep it will support you in a more up right position. I also sleep with a fan next to my face at night because the air blowing in your face helps with your breathing.
