Hi, I vas diagnosed 20 days ago with ugly kidney cancer. I'll have a biopsy on Thursday, I try to prepare myself, absolutely terrified.

Just an hour ago got a call from the hospital, they wanted to appoint me  next week for a lung biopsy. I said no. I have COPD, Asthma and now the kidney cancer and top of it I am 71+ years old.

Is anybody  here who can advise please?

  • Hi Marigold, so sorry that this is happening to you.  And yes, it's frightening.  If I was you (I know, I'm not....) I'd go ahead with the biopsy, because I've always worried less about things when I know exactly what I'm confronting.  It's uncertainty that I can't cope with.  However, I've had two kinds of biopsy and one was not great for me, and I will refuse to have another one, and the other one was perfectly fine.  So I had a bronchoscopy which was awful - I had a sedative and they attempted to do a lavage which made me cough and it was actually quite terrifying in spite of the sedative, and they had to stop the procedure and didn't get a good enough result anyway.  Then I was booked for a CT-guided biopsy, which didn't interfere with my breathing at all, and everything was nicely numbed with local anaesthetic, and they got a good result to tell what kind of lung cancer I had, and then my team came up with a plan for treatment.  I hope that helps.

  •  My wife has had Ovarian "C" that attached to her bowel. She then had kidney "C"  with some in her liver. The "C" eventually destroyed her kidneys she's had a transplant. I've recently had bowel "C" and lung "C". We are both still here. Go along with anything they say, it's the only way to have a hope in surviving.  Our problem won't go away on it's own.

  • Hi Marigolds,

I had an op for lung cancer 3 years ago. I have COPD and brochiectasis and had a guided biopsy. As I see it it’s essential to have the lung biopsy because treatment will be very difficult without the knowledge of what exactly is in your lung. I’m pretty certain they wouldn’t suggest it if they thought it would cause you additional problems.

I’m now waiting for an adrenal gland scan. The waiting IMO is the most stressful part of the deal. It’s waiting to find out what the problem is. I’m 73 in two weeks time and it’s been quite a blow, even though I don’t know what it is yet.

It really is a difficult time and talking on here can be a real help. You could talk to one of the nurses here if you felt that could help.

    Sending you love Daisy Bouquet

  • Hi Marigold

My mum has lung biopsy, age 79 with COPD. It wasn’t pleasant but essential in diagnosis. You’ll be well looked after x
