I have had a partial nephrectomy Dec '23 for right kidney cancer,at the follow up appointment was then diagnosed on the left kidney ,to monitor.
A follow up CT saw a mass on the spleen, would recommend a splenectomy if it continues to grow.
Another CT scan this year, and pet, means now just been diagnosed with lung cancer.
The uncertainty is as to which poses the greater threat, and wether to proceed with surgery, still leaving a further 2 to deal with.Under Urology,Hepatology and respiratory and which will deem the most urgent or serious and possibly put back treatment such as radiotherapy, which urology have said would likely be the treatment on the kidney.
Have spoken to respiratory surgeon today,it is very near to the heart, likely to have to remove a lobe,or lobes of right lung.Subject to fitness, have agreed to go on the list for surgery. The pet scan revealed 'intensely avid ' on the lung,so 94% likely lung cancer, but could have spread from kidney.
Hi Nidge,
That's a lot to take in - how are you feeling, do you have family to support you with all of this?
Kate x
Nidge, oh dear, yes, that's a lot of different sites and it must be very challenging to know what takes priority. After my PET scan showed something growing in my colon, which they wanted to address more or less straight away, but there was a plan being put in place for surgery to remove the tumour on my right lung, my pulmonary team gave me advice on what to deal with first. They said that anything with the heart always comes first, followed by anything to do with the lungs - and then anything else comes quite a lot further down in terms of importance. That helped me a lot to delay the colonoscopies (I eventually had four before the adenoma in the saecum was removed) and I went ahead with the lobectomy. Good choice, because I'm still here, 8 years later. It must be very hard for you to face so much possible treatment/surgery - I'd suggest ask your team for advice about which should come first - they'll probably have firm thoughts to guide you. Best from all of us.
No family of my own, have parents still.
Cancer nurses have been helpful
At least they have all been detected early,as regular scans.
Now awaiting appt with surgeon to discuss .
Makes sense,vital organs first.
They have all been detected early,so could be a lot worse.
Hi I had the same kidney surgery as you in December but had a chest ct last month which revealed atelectasis in both lower lobes and a nodule in my right upper lobe but no one will tell us what these are until my appointment on the 25th of this month do you have a idea at all because the not knowing is worse than the knowing
