Hello everyone

I'm sorry if I'm take time out of your busy days, but I guess I'm looking for reassurance.

I have had an ongoing cough for 4 weeks, thought I might have a chest infection. I went to the docs yesterday, she listened to my lungs, chest said they sounded clear. I also have a pain in my shoulder, been there longer than the cough, looking things up on the Internet and saw this was a symptom of lung cancer, iv never smoked. I have been given antibiotics, doc says if these don't help and its still as bad next week and she will send me for a chest xray, is it possible this could be something else other than lung cancer, I'm so scared.

  • Bubbles1, I sincerely hope your cough turns out to be a false alarm.  I was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2017 after having a cough (tickle, tickle!) for six weeks.  I hadn't had a cold.  A paramedic prescribed cough medicine and told me to come back if it didn't work so I did, and asked to see a doctor.  The doctor listened to my chest and said there was a "dead area" which she wanted to check out with an Xray.  And the rest is history.  However, the difference you have is that your chest sounds clear..... I hope so much for you that your cough turns out to have been a small infection and that the antibiotic fixes it.  I feel extremely lucky however, to have been diagnosed early enough for my cancer to be treated, and I was discharged from surveillance last year.  Be strong.  Go back and let your doctor check your chest again when your antibiotic is finished - just to be sure.  <3

  • Thank you so much for taking time to reply, and I'm so glad you have came out the other end. I will go back next week if it doesn't get any better, fingers crossed as you say it's just an infection cx

  • Dear Bubbles, yes it could be, but then again it could be any number of problems. I had surgery last year for lung cancer that I had no symptoms of. They found it after I had my routine scan from having bowel cancer in 03. You do right to be anxious we on hear have all been there. Keep us up to speed on your progress. Let's hope you don't join us but if you need to you will be among friends ready to give you support.

None of us want to be here but here we are, stay positive. I get the result from my last scan and blood test today, here's hoping

  • Jagman, hoping with you.  Let us know!

  • I must have got it wrong. I phoned them they say it's next month

  • Eish!  Hard to wait another month.  Wishing you patience!

  • I suppose I can take cold comfort, it's been three week since my scan. If there was anything to shout about they would have shouted me. No news is good news
