Any help or advice, ever since I had immunotherapy 3 months ago am suffering from frequent debilitating bouts of nausea, liquid vomiting and diarrhoea and fatigue. My consultant says it is the result Have been offered no more treatment for my stage 4 lung cancer Am afraid the cancer has spread to my colon though a scan 3 months ago showed the tumour was stable This is really getting me down because I never know when it will strike. Any help or advice for managing it please

  • I have a similiar thing going on and i have not had a treatment yet.  The  key for me is my drink and food.  If you have not, check out recipies that are anti imflammatory.  I just finished reading a book called 'How Not to Die" by Micheal Gregor.  It has a section for each kind of Cancer and what to eat if you don't want to die.  Really good advice.  Also check out cook books for kidney cancer or anti inflammatory recipies.  I don't have it all together yet on cooking with all fruits, vegtables, protein subs but I am working on it.

  • Hi,

Glad to read your tumour is stable, that's good news. But sorry to read you are having a hard time with the treatment.

Immunotherapy is a weird one - the side effects are your immune system defending you from things that are quite okay. Eventually they subside but not totally because the immune system learns - even things it should not. You need to find out what your immune system sees as a threat - from your symptoms it seems to be some thing(s) in your diet.

What I did was write down everything that I ate or drank over a week (I had to do that anyway to confirm I was getting enough protein to make lots of white blood cells.) Then, one by one, I stopped having something for a few days to see if that made a difference. This takes a LONG time, so persevere. You are looking for a trigger, not a direct cause. What you find out will probably seem illogical, but you are dealing with a system that plays by its own crazy rules.

Good luck and I hope you feel better.

    kind regards,
    Steve

  • If you're thinking dietary triggers for nausea and diarrhoea, the most likely foods could be bovine proteins, that is all forms of milk, cream, butter, cheese, yoghurt, been and any processed foods containing any of those foods.  If you were to try eliminating those foods, as a group, first, you might save a lot of time.  It could take about 3 weeks to notice a difference in how you're feeling, but if it was me, I'd give it a try.  Good that your cancer is stable and hoping that you feel better soon.  Keep in touch!

  • Sorry,, typo - beef, not been!
