Hello and thanks for adding me to the forum.

I’m a 69 lady living in Essex with numerous pets. I have adult kids and three glorious little grandsons. Feeling great but all isn’t what it seems.
In nov 2023 I was diagnosed with a suspicious ‘nodule’ having been included in the lung screening programme and meeting the criteria. It was later confirmed as NSCLC after a bronchoscopic biopsy done at Barts Hospital London.
In February 2024 I had a right VATS upper lobe removal and lower lobe wedge done at the Essex Cardiothoracic Centre in Basildon. .
The following September I had another CT scan that showed possible infection and had a bronchoscopy with a flush that showed EColi - I was treated with a four week course of Amoxicillin.
On March 29th I had a follow up CT and after a consultation yesterday April 8th it seems cancer has returned. So the new plan is lung function test next Tuesday followed with a PET scan and biopsy, dates to be given then lower lobe VATS - again at the Cardiothoracic Cetre.

So that me folks - isn’t cancer a tremendous bore?
Wishing all cancer warriors well and treatments successful.

  • Hi' Feedz.  I had Bowel surgery in 03. Then lung surgery last October, two week ago I had follow up scan. I'll be having my consult' in a couple of week. I'm some what uncomfortable in my surgical area but I don't want to go to my GP until I get my results, don't want to confuse things. other than that I'm feeling my normal self. Yes a tremendous bore and a bloody nuisance. We are all in a club that no one wants to be in but here we are.

    Good luck - Raymond

  • Hi Feedz,

PLEASE get tested for ALK+ mutation. It is often overlooked and the treatment plan is very very different!

    Best of luck

  • Hi Raymond.
I hope your consult is good and no more treatment. I actually found the most painful part of my operation was the chest drain plus I was sent home with it in but the bag wasn’t filling with air, instead I was. I blew up like a balloon within literal hours so back in I went and once again attached to the pump that finally took all the air away. Three days later the drain was removed and I was discharged.

    Those chest drains are awful!

Good luck with your consult - a worrying time isn’t it?

  • Thank you Sonia I have not heard of that so I will mention it to my consultant when I see her following my biopsy.

  • Wow Freedz I didn't have any drain problems. They took mine out the day after my op' sent me home the day after that. Maybe my one wasn't as severe as yours.
