Hi everyone thanks for having me here,i have posted on my profile page, and tried to copy/paste here but it won't let me.Diagnosed with lung cancer 2024,saw consultant again last week to be told one area has shrunk, but the other has too much inflammation around it to be clearly seen,so another scan planned for beginning of June and see consultant again end of June.
Hi' Jinty, Can I say welcome to the club that none of us want to be a member of, but here we are. I had surgery for my lung one last October. In 03 I had surgery for a bowel one. We trust in our consultants and go along with their procedure. We've all followed more or less the path you are on.
I feel quite normal and myself now. Once you get through it you should be ok. We support each other as best we can. Others will be along to talk to you. Stay positive and keep us up to date on your progress.
Hi Jinty,
a warm welcome from me too. The waiting times are frustrating but extra fast tracks are not nice either. Post whenever you need support or just feel like venting, whatever. Have a great evening
Patrick xx
Thank you both for the welcome, it's good to be in a group situation where everyone understands, even when nobody wants to be here.
Hi Jinty,
Could I ask if one area has shrunk, and if the inflammation has gone down on the other and that has shrunk also - what's their plan going forward? Like if it has shrunk but not completely gone? I ask as my granddad starts radiotherapy soon also for stage 1 x
Hi Jinty b4 a very warm welcome to the group. I had radiotherapy on a very large tumour which was blocking my airway. That was 10 years ago, and we just recently spoke about how poorly I was back then with my oncologist. I think it does me good to be reminded as to just how far I have come. What I can tell you is that after my first 3 month scan after treatment, my tumour had shrunk by 50%. At the next scan which was at the 6 month point it had shrunk again, and at the 12 month scan it was still there, but unmeasurable. Radiation stays in your body for that long doing its work, and I think that as your lung shows inflammation, that is the radiation doing its job, the only time I would ever say inflammation is good, is when it is caused by radiation.
Hi Kate290822,sorry to hear about your granddad, when does his treatment start x,The cancer has shrunk on one area, but they can't tell yet what is happening to the other area as it has a fair bit of inflammation around it to see it properly, hence another waiting game of 3 months.Part of my radiotherapy was SABRE treatment....can't remember that the initials stand for,but i believe it is quite intense radiotherapt along with whatever the normal one is Because i had two different types of radiotherapy it took a little longer, but i only had the SABRE for 3 of the days. The nurses in Radiology were fantastic on every visit, explaining what was going on.Good luck to your granddad. x
Thank you Chellesimo, thank you for the welcome and that is very reasurring,i had asmumed it to be the other way round and the cancer was still growing causing the inflammation, i will worry a bit less now knowing that.I have to stop asumming that every ache and pain is down to the cancer. x
Oh I still do that 10 years into my incurable journey. I convince myself that a pain is it spreading, then I get my scan results and told I am still stable, and my pain instantly disappears. The brain can play some very crafty tricks on us, and anxiety makes it 100 times worse, but who cannot be anxious living with this disease. It’s a vicious circle of worry then reassurance.
