Lung cancer in the elderly

Hi everyone!

So my Nan was unfortunately diagnosed with Lung Cancer on the 13th of February. She’s been unwell since September/October with her doctor brushing it off as a number of other minor things.. luckily further investigations was done - lung cancer was unfortunately the outcome. She explained to me that the doctor showed her I believe the X-ray or something and she said that it looked like the cancer was half way up both of her lungs.. I believe after a lot of research that it's stage 4 as it’s now spread? Of course only a biopsy/further tests can confirm that.

She’s got a biopsy for this month in a hospital in London, however she’s had a temperature and other symptoms of an infection the past couple of weeks and her doctors are extremely unhelpful. She’s in unbearable pain with her legs, her head constantly feels like she’s swimming, high temperature. They’re just not investigating the root of the infection and whether it’s related to the cancer or not.. has anyone else had this and can offer any advice or just some wisdom really?

Thank you.

  • Hi xloe, This is distressing news for your Nan. I'm afraid I can't really help but there are others on who maybe can.

I had bowel cancer in 03 and had it removed. Then last year I had it in my lung, had that one removed. But honestly I did not feel ill. I had some pain but not ill.

My wife some years ago had unbearable pain in her leg and it turned out to D V T, a very serious problem. Maybe you should get back to her G P and raise a complaint.

Keep us up to speed on her progress. Others on her may offer more help than I can, good luck

    Raymond

  • Hi,

I'm a nurse however not a cancer specialist, I don't work for Macmillan just a forum user like everyone else but I just wanted to say if your nan is having these symptoms you really need to press the GP to take further action, or speak with NHS 111 if you are concerned xx
