Hello everyone, I have just been diagnosed with stage 2b adenocarcinoma of the right lung, I have joined the forum to share mine and hear your stories as it is such a scary thing to face on your own.
Hello Tooty, Welcome to the group that none of us want to belong to.
I wanted to send words of encouragement to you on your very scary diagnosis. It's very nearly 8 years since I was diagnosed with stage 2B adenocarcinoma of the right lung (upper lobe) too. Looking back, I feel very very lucky to have found out so early - it was a 7 cm tumour, and looked so horrendous on the Xray. I had a lobectomy within 2 months, followed by chemo. It was found in a couple fo mediastinal nodes 18 months later so then I had more chemo, and radiotherapy and a year's immunotherapy which ended just as Covid hit. Since then I had 3,4 and then 6 monthly CT scans, and now here I am 8 years later and earlier this year I was discharged back to my GP because there was officially no recurrence. Lucky me. It is certainly really scary, and I honestly thought I would die within 6 months, but once your oncologist and multi-disciplinary team have worked out a plan of care for you, I think you will start to feel hopeful. I hope my story reassures you. I found it necessary to just accept everything and make sure that I treated every single day as a gift. There has never been a better time to have lung cancer, apparently there have been at least 15 new treatments developed in just the last 5 years. Sending really hopeful good wishes. Let us know how you go in the next few months.
Thank you so much for reaching out to me PamelaAnne. I’m so sorry to hear about your journey but so happy to hear that you have come along way since being diagnosed 8 years ago, that gives such hope for myselfmine is a 5cm right upper lobe and I am told I will be having chemo and immunotherapy to try shrink it before surgery but I have to have a brain scan on Friday to make sure it hasn’t spread before they will start any treatment. It is all very scary hearing the news and I admire u so much for what you have and are going through! Thanks again
Thank you Tooty. OK, only 5 cm for you - that sounds good :) You might find they want to do all sorts of tests and scans and you might feel you're on a merry-go-round that you can't get off. But at the same time it's reassuring - they've got your back, and are obviously taking great care. I had a brain scan right at the end, not at the beginning (all clear) but it could be that protocols are changing. Yes, like you, I got the impression throughout that I was only able to receive treatment if I was well enough (like taking a sort of exam and passing!) so in a way, the more they offer you, the better the outcome they expect. Best wishes for your brain scan on Friday.
Thank you PamelaAnne I will let you know the results once I get them after the brain scan. You are so brave and an inspiration
Tooty, definitely not brave.... just sort of fatalistic...! But definitely determined to make the best of my precious time, and my precious family! I feel so so lucky. Please do keep in touch, and be very kind to yourself as you wait to go through all these treatments, and keep family and friends close. It helps! And so do these support groups. I hope others will chime in too :)
Hi' Tooty, I had my lung surgery last October. It was following bowel surgery in 03. I'm feeling more ore less back to normal just a little sore still but feeling fine. It's bloody annoying I know. Remember you are no longer on your own you are among friends we've all been there. Please keep in touch
Hello Tooty,
I was diagnosed T2aN1M0 in 2014, had right lung removed and adjuvant chemotherapy. Apart from one scare which was a false alarm I've been fortunate not to have experienced lung cancer recurrence since. I also had a brain scan before surgery went ahead, fortunately it found a brain but nothing else sinister.
I hope your treatment is a complete success, persevere with it and before you know it will all be a distant memory.
Derek.
