Hi

My husband was diagnosed with lung cancer in the summer of 2023 following a chest X-ray because of reflux. He was also diagnosed with prostate cancer.

The prostate cancer is being treated with hormone injections.

Initially he had radiotherapy for his lung cancer. This was partially successful in that the tumour on his lung was cleared but there was spread to his breast and lymph nodes under his arm.
After 4 chemotherapy cycles he was put on 3 weekly maintenance chemotherapy and immunotherapy.

There have been side effects from this as well as the fatigue and nausea. He has been anaemic and has had 3 blood transfusions. He currently has cellulitis and swelling in his ankles and lower legs. Antibiotics haven’t worked yet and probably going to need intravenous antibiotics.

I had hoped that on the maintenance chemo we would be able to have some good times on his ‘ good’ period but this hasn’t worked out and we are having to cancel any arrangements made.

My husband is 75 years and I am 73 years so we appreciate that we are lucky to have lived most of our life before this happened. Cancer affects young people and children and this is truly tragic.

  • Hi Liz C welcome to the forum and I am so sorry to hear what has been happening for you both, that's not easy at all. I think Cancer comes into our lives, totally uninvited, turns our life upside down, then leaves or creates side effects that leave is feeling sick and unwell. It is sad for everyone no matter their age and I sincerely hope that you get some respite to enjoy life as you both want to, kick up your heels and dance. Sending some huge big hugs your way for now. X
