Just heard advert for 'The Briefing Room' tonight, 1st of 3 about health is about new treatments including vaccine for cancer. Worth a try?
I have just listened to this this morning, you can hear this episode through bbc sounds if anyone else does want a listen.
I think there are a lot of treatments in the pipeline, but I’m not sure the word vaccine is the right word, as they have stated it won’t stop the person getting cancer but may reduce the severity. I think when we hear the word vaccine that it means they have found a cancer cure, which unfortunately is not the case, not for our generation anyway.
It was interesting to hear that they are looking at less harsh treatments which will mean people can live longer with disease and not have such severe side effects. It is great that new treatments may be coming along, and I always think back to immunotherapy and how when that was introduced we thought it was the new wonder drug. For many it has been, and it seems odd thinking back to days before immunotherapy was available. But unfortunately we know that even immunotherapy isn’t suitable for everyone.
Here in the UK we are behind in our cancer research than many other countries, and we know how expensive these drugs are, so I will remain hopefully optimistic that new drugs are in the pipeline, but I fear they won’t be anytime soon.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
