Morning.

I've posted in the new to the community but a quick synopsis. My mum was undergoing treatment for temporal artertitis late last year and started exhibiting dysphagia. GP thought was steriod induced.

But after struggling with water has had a hospitsl omission after already had a CXR. This showed a mass near her lung and gullet with mets in adrenal and hip bone. Thankfully no pain but still struggling to eat.

SShe has a bronchoscopy which showed that thryy are unsure where the tumour is (lung or gullet) but needs to try radiotherapy so she can eat better for some chemo. The problem I have is she is positive it will help but my Dad went through chest radiotherapy for gullet cancer and it made things so much worse.

I'm scared and feeling overwhelmed. I started a new job in January and my husband is having health challengesm

  • Hi guidinglight84, welcome to the group, but sorry to hear about your mum. The thing to remember with any treatment is that everybody reacts differently. I had radiotherapy for my lung sarcoma. The side effects I experienced was extreme fatigue, and a sore oesophagus, but for me I had such a good result from the treatment it was worth it!

It is overwhelming when a loved one is diagnosed. You can reach out to the Macmillan Chat or you can call the support line any day from 8am until 8pm on 0808 808 00 00. You can also join the carers-only-forum where you can connect with other people who are in a similar situation.

Wishing you and your mum all the best.

    Chelle
