Hi Folks,

Can anyone advise how long after Lung cancer biopsy happening you can expect to hear from medical team on treatment timelines and options?

Asking this for a friend who is currently going through the process and is starting to get really worried and upset just trying to help.

  • Hi, I had an appt with Respiratory team about 8 or 9 days after biopsy to confirm diagnosis. I was then referred to another hospital who will be doing the surgery and was seen by the surgeon about a week after that, had a pre op assessment about a week after that and am now just waiting for a date for surgery, been 6 weeks now and not heard anything, I might ring and try and find out how much longer it will be. How long it takes I think depends on diagnosis, if other scans or things need done and on your health authority. It's awful waiting for answers but I think there is a lot of behind the scenes things going on and I have certainly had to learn to be patient as will your friend. I hope they get answers soon, were they given a named nurse that they can contact?

  • 3 weeks for biopsy result , then 1 week to meet one of the surgeon and 5 week until  operation.

  • Appreciate the reply Bella27 thank you I will pass this on during next visit.

  • Sorry not sure about named nurse will find out tomorrow

  • I hope your friend gets answers soon, not knowing is the worst bit because your imagination runs riot

  • A biopsy alone will only confirm the type of cancer and the grade.  Imaging results will be needed for clinical staging.

The gathering of information takes a while but once it's in the MDT will discuss the case and decide on treatment options.  Each of the options usually require further testing before treatment starts.

    1. Usually within 10/14 days of the biopsy are results and information on the best course of treatment.  I think many would agree that the waiting on results can be more nerve wracking than having the information.
    2. Reassure your friend they are not alone and we are here to share experiences and offer support whenever we can. X

  • I am also awaiting results, had CT, Pet scan showed hot spots in Lymph nodes, Just had Ebus on Wednesday, was told i will be called in Next week, Does and one know what Heterogeneous pathalogical appearance means

  • How was the Ebos my husband has one booked in for Monday ?

  • It went ok, they heavily sedate you, I wish they went for General anaestetic though, I would suggest pain killers when you get home and plenty of rest i am just getting over the tiredness today, certainly slept alot
